BEFORE INSTALLING DRIVERS
Before installing the EtherPort II drivers, quit out of all applications. If an application is open during installation, the installer will warn that an application is open and to quit from the installation process.
If any anti-virus software is running, such as Disinfectent, Virex or SAM, it is essential
to disable it before installing the EtherPort II driver. FAILURE TO DISABLE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE MAY RESULT IN CORRUPTING THE SYSTEM FILE. To avoid corrupting the system
file, scan the disk with the anti-virus software and then disable the software according to manufacturer’s instructions. Once the software has been disabled, please proceed with the EtherPort II driver installation as described in the Release Notes.
Shiva FastPath users should be aware that the current FastPath Manager and the new
EtherTalk drivers are not fully compatible. Shiva is currently working on a version of the FastPath Manager that will be fully compatible with the new EtherTalk drivers. The new FastPath Manager is available from Shiva Technical Support.

INSTALLATION INFORMATION
The EtherPort II drivers make use of the Apple Installer version 3.2. It will allow installation on the active start up disk without booting from a separate disk. Once all open applications have been closed and anti-virus software has been disabled according to manufacturer’s instructions, the EtherPort II drivers may be installed by clicking on the installer icon (NOT the installer script). Then click on the Install button.
The Customize install option should only be used when installing to a drive other than the active start up drive. If custom is selected, the option key can be held down to toggle the install button to a remove button.
If the EtherPort II driver is being installed on a Macintosh IIfx, please install AppleTalk version 56 on the system as well. Without AppleTalk version 56, the IIfx will crash when swapping from Built-in to EtherTalk in the Network function of the Control Panel. Once the system has been rebooted, the system and drivers will work. If a copy of AppleTalk version 56 is needed, contact Apple or an authorized Apple Dealer.
When installing the EtherPort II drive on an AppleShare file server, follow the special instructions detailed in the Release Notes, also found on this disk.
If the EtherPort II files are being installed from an electronic package, please follow the instructions detailed in the Release Notes, also found on this disk.
